What about women who decide to have their ears pierced at a late age?
Many women who used to wear clip-on earrings for decades took the plunge in their 60s (or older) and decided to have their ears pierced only recently.
Nowadays having ears done as a toddler or teen seems to be a widespread "rite of passage" for any girl.
Why so many older women didn't make such decision when they were younger?
I got my ears pierced for the first time when I was in my forties, up until that time I always wore clip earrings. My girlfriend took me to get them pierced for my birthday.
Then when I was in my fifties, I had them pierced a second time!
Last year, I was going to get them pierced again with my granddaughter, but she wasn't 18 yet and couldn't do it without her mother's permission, and she wasn't here. So that is on hold!
My mother was in her 50's before she got hers pierced, a friend of hers did it the oldfashioned way with an ice cube, a needle, and a silk string!
I waited until they did it the easy way, with the piercing gun!
Never have had a minute's problem with them, and have been glad I did it ever since.l
