do you trust the news or main stream media ? i think it is a way to control you.?

I go to a number of sources out side the US, but I also read between the lines and won't totally accept all of what any source states.
You can't - Governmental agencies, carreerist journalists, limitians based on a restricted POV, even well intended reporting can leave out or distort critical details.
I avoid American media. But putting in a plug here, the MSM is not liberal, or any more liberal than the corporations that own/run them.

what is the best way to prepare for a medium distance run.?

I'm talking about in the final days, what are some tips on what you can do to make sure that you give your best effort on race day? If you have any tips on how to maintain your pace and breath control, best type of shoe, etc., that would helpful too.

What usually do is back off on the training a couple of days. Just do light 3 to 5 mile jogs. DO NOT DRINK ANY POP or alcholic beverages. I usually try to eat some carbs also. As what to eat on race day everyone is different that you are just going to have to experiement with. Some people cant eat anything on race day others can eat anything. I usually have a nutrigrain bar and a banna. As for shoes if this is a road race I would get a pair of cross trainers if you are new to running cause they have extra padding and you dont want to develop shin splints from running on the hard cement. If it is on a track or grass then I would recomend buying a pair of mid distance spikes. Then walk around in them the day before your race so you can get the feel for them. As for breathing just try not to get to worked up before your race starts. You want to be a little bit anxious before you start to get some adrenilne pumping but not too much where you breath to fast and develop cramps during your race.
